Colleen O’Brien

Assistant Vice President - State Relations


Colleen O’Brien is the Assistant Vice President for Government Relations for The Ohio State University.  Colleen’s current responsibilities include acting as the liaison between the University and the administrative and legislative branches of state government, monitoring legislation, and developing and strengthening partnerships between the state and the University.  At the national level, Colleen has been active in higher education advocacy by serving a three-year term on the Task Force on State Relations which is responsible for the annual national conference for state relations officers in higher education.


Colleen returned to her alma mater in March 1996 after serving for more than 12 years in state government.  Her state service includes time spent as an intern in the Ohio House of Representatives, as a legislative assistant and the research director for the Ohio Senate, as the chief of staff for the Lt. Governor, and as president of Ohio’s Controlling Board while deputy director of the Office of Budget and Management.  Colleen graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in exercise physiology.
